2. Our People

Our People

We will provide hockey opportunities keeping everyone interested in the game: players, coaches, umpires, friends & family. We encourage participation by creating and developing a positive and fun environment for everyone on and off the field. It is important that we focus on everyone as development is not only for the players identified as ‘talented’. We will provide our players with a rewarding experience and competition at the appropriate level and with a clear development structure. We must provide top quality coaching at all levels, with a minimum of level one accreditation.

With our members we will focus on:

  • Building good relationships
  • Developing clear communications
  • Establishing trust

Secure our future with continuity of leadership by focusing on succession planning to ensure there is a pipeline of people ready to takeover following a vacancy that may pose a threat to the clubs mission.

The way we gather, share and exploit our knowledge of hockey is central to our ability to develop successfully. Knowledge management benefits everyone.

Our strategic outcomes:

  • We foster and continue to maintain a group of high performing
    umpires and officials
  • A reservoir and steady supply of umpires  with the potential to progress
  • A system of quality control, coaching and development of umpires
  • A better understanding of umpiring by our players and supporters

We will focus on six principles when engaging with new and existing members:

  • Reduce barriers to joining
  • Consider the total experience of the participants
  • Cater for different skill levels
  • The deliverer of the program has the most influence on retention
  • The participants need a clear pathway as their level of participation changes
  • Build scale and sustainability into the processes
