Private Coaching
Private coaching at Greensborough Hockey Club provides players with additional coaching support outside normal team training.
It is designed for players who want more focused help with their skills, confidence, decision-making or understanding of the game. Private coaching does not replace team training or club competition. It is an additional option for players who want extra support.
What private coaching can help with
Private coaching may help players work on:
- ball control
- passing and receiving
- carrying the ball
- first touch
- shooting
- tackling and defending
- scanning and decision-making
- body position and movement
- confidence with the ball
- applying skills in game situations
The focus is not just doing more practice. The aim is to help players practise carefully, understand what they are trying to improve, and build better habits over time.
Who private coaching is for
Private coaching may suit:
- junior players wanting extra skill support
- players moving from introductory hockey into club competition
- players returning after time away
- players wanting help with confidence or decision-making
- players preparing for a higher level of hockey
- players who want more individual feedback than team training can usually provide
Private coaching is not only for advanced players. It can also help developing players who need clearer guidance and more focused practice.
How private coaching works
Private coaching sessions are arranged through the club’s approved private coaching process.
Sessions may be individual or small group, depending on player needs, coach availability and club arrangements.
The club will confirm:
- coach availability
- session format
- location
- session length
- cost
- payment process
- safety requirements
- any parent or guardian attendance expectations for junior players
Players and families should not arrange private coaching under the club’s name outside the approved club process.
Club-approved coaching
Private coaching delivered under the Greensborough Hockey Club name must sit within the club’s coaching and safety framework.
This helps make sure that coaching is appropriate, safe, transparent and consistent with club expectations.
Coaches must follow club requirements for:
- player safety
- respectful behaviour
- appropriate communication
- child safety
- use of club facilities
- payment process
- session approval
- coaching standards
This protects players, families, coaches and the club.
Coaching approach
Private coaching should help players understand the skill, practise it properly and apply it in game-like situations.
A useful session may include:
- identifying what the player wants to improve
- explaining the key parts of the skill
- practising the movement carefully
- giving clear feedback
- adjusting the activity to the player’s level
- adding pressure or decision-making when appropriate
- connecting the skill back to the game
The aim is to help players become more confident, capable and thoughtful hockey players.
Junior players
For junior players, private coaching should be age-appropriate, safe and supportive.
The focus should be on confidence, sound habits, enjoyment and gradual improvement. Young players should not be overloaded with too much technical detail or pressured to perform beyond their stage of development.
For junior sessions, the club may require a parent or guardian to remain nearby or follow any supervision arrangements set by the club.
Private coaching and team selection
Private coaching does not guarantee team selection, promotion, representative selection or increased game time.
Selection decisions are made through the club’s normal team and coaching processes.
Private coaching can support player development, but it should not be seen as a shortcut around team training, coach expectations or club selection processes.
Before booking
Before requesting private coaching, players and families should consider:
- what the player wants to improve
- whether the player is attending regular team training
- whether extra coaching is appropriate for the player’s age and stage
- whether individual or small-group coaching would be most useful
- whether the player is ready to practise carefully and apply feedback
If you are unsure, contact the club before booking.
Request private coaching
Use the private coaching request option if you would like to ask about availability, suitability or next steps.
