Greensborough Hockey Club is running a series of free junior summer hockey sessions throughout October and November 2026, giving young players the chance to keep playing, develop their skills and simply enjoy more time on the pitch.
The sessions are open to 2026 registered players and young people who did not play hockey in 2026. There is no sign-up, no cost and no expectation that players attend every week. Come whenever you can.
Summer is busy and many families have other sports and activities, so the program is deliberately flexible. Most importantly, we want young people who enjoy hockey to have an opportunity to keep playing.
Tuesday – Under 12 Development
5:30–6:30 pm | 20 October–24 November 2026
For boys and girls in the 2026 Under 12 age group, whether or not they played club hockey during 2026.
The sessions will focus on understanding how the game works: creating and using space, supporting teammates and making better decisions together in attack and defence.
No session on Tuesday 3 November – Melbourne Cup Day.
Wednesday – Junior Girls Transition Programme
6:00–7:00 pm | 21 October–25 November 2026
For junior girls who played senior hockey during 2026 or are interested in moving towards senior women’s hockey in 2027.
Players will work on seeing the game earlier, recognising space and pressure, and making better decisions about when to pass, carry or move the ball, helping them become more comfortable with the pace of senior hockey.
Thursday – Under 10 Development
6:00–7:00 pm | 22 October–26 November 2026
For primary school players who were in Under 10 in 2026, are moving into Under 10 in 2027, or have previous hockey experience.
Sessions will help players become more confident with the ball, including playing on both sides of the body, passing over greater distances and looking before receiving so they begin to recognise more options around them.
Thursday – Hookin2Hockey / Come-and-Try
6:00–7:00 pm | 22 October–26 November 2026
This stream is for younger players, primary school children who are new to hockey and friends who would like to give hockey a try.
No experience is needed. Sessions will be simple, active and fun, with plenty of opportunities to have the ball, score goals and play.
If your child has a friend who might enjoy hockey, bring them along.
Loan equipment will be available where possible, so children can try hockey without families needing to buy a stick first.
Come Down Early on Wednesday and Thursday
Players are welcome to arrive between 5:30 and 6:00 pm on Wednesday and Thursday for some unstructured hockey before the formal sessions begin.
Equipment will be available and adults will be present, but there will be no organised drills or coaching during this half hour. We want to give young players some time where hockey belongs to them — making up games, experimenting, playing with friends and simply enjoying being on the pitch.
Formal coaching starts at 6:00 pm.
Which Session Should My Child Attend?
The program labels are based mainly on 2026 age groups, but they are intended as a guide rather than a barrier. We can be flexible where siblings, family members or friendship groups are involved, and we recognise that children develop at different rates and come to hockey with different levels of experience.
If you are unsure which session is the best fit, come down and speak with us.
Above all, if your child enjoys hockey, bring them down and let them play.
Don't See a Group That Fits?
If your child was part of another 2026 junior age group and there isn't an obvious session for them, we would still like to hear from you.
If enough players are looking for a similar opportunity, we will look at whether an additional Wednesday or Thursday group can be created.
The objective is to give as many juniors as practical the opportunity to keep playing over summer.
Free, Flexible and Open to New Players
These sessions are not only for children who played with Greensborough during the 2026 season.
New players and children who did not play club hockey in 2026 are welcome, and we can help families work out the most suitable group.
There is no registration fee and no requirement to commit to the full program. Just come along, play, learn and enjoy hockey at Burra as we head towards the 2027 season.
