Thinking About Returning to Hockey in 2027? There’s a Place for You at Burra

If you have played hockey before but have been away from the game, 2027 could be a good time to come back. You do not need to know exactly which team suits you or commit to the highest level of competition before making contact with Greensborough Hockey Club.

GHC has several adult pathways, from senior weekend hockey through to Masters and weeknight options. The aim is to help people find a level of hockey that fits their experience, availability and reasons for playing.

You do not have to come back at the level you left

People step away from hockey for many reasons, including work, study, family commitments, moving house or simply needing a break. Returning does not mean picking up exactly where you left off.

You may want competitive weekend hockey, a lower-commitment option, Masters hockey, a social pathway or simply a conversation about what might fit. The club can help you work through those choices.

Senior hockey for different levels and goals

GHC fields senior teams across a range of levels. That means returning players do not need to assume that senior hockey is only for elite or highly committed players.

Our Senior and Returning Players page explains the main senior entry pathway and gives you a starting point if you are unsure where you fit.

Masters and weeknight hockey

For players looking for age-group competition, a different weekly rhythm or another way to stay involved in the game, GHC also has Masters & Weeknight Hockey options.

These pathways can suit experienced players who want to keep competing as well as people returning after time away who would prefer a different level of commitment from traditional weekend hockey.

What if your confidence is not where it used to be?

That is common. Returning players often worry that they need to be fully ready before contacting a club. In practice, the first step is simply to start a conversation.

  • You can ask which teams or programs may suit your current level.
  • You can discuss training expectations before committing.
  • You can explain how much hockey you realistically want to play.
  • You can ask about Masters, weeknight or other lower-load options.
  • You can take time to rebuild confidence at a sensible pace.

New to adult hockey?

You do not necessarily need a long playing history to explore senior hockey either. Adults with limited experience, people returning after many years away and players moving from another club or competition are all welcome to make contact.

If you are completely new to the sport, the broader Start Playing Hockey guide can help you find the best first step.

Make 2027 your return to hockey

You do not need to choose a team before contacting us. Tell GHC a little about your hockey background, how long you have been away, what sort of commitment you are looking for and what you want from the game now.

Start with the Senior and Returning Players pathway, or explore Masters & Weeknight Hockey if that sounds closer to what you are looking for.

There is no requirement to arrive with everything worked out. The useful first step is simply to get back in touch with hockey.
