Starting hockey is easier when you know what to expect. Your first season at Greensborough Hockey Club is a chance to learn the game, meet people and find a level of participation that fits your life.
Begin with the right expectations
You do not need to arrive knowing every rule or being ready to play at a high level. New players develop by learning a few skills at a time, listening to their coaches and becoming comfortable with the pace of the game.
Some people begin because they want a new sport. Others are returning after time away, looking for social connection, or helping a child discover an activity. Each starting point is valid.
What your first season may include
A first season can involve training, games, introductory activities, meeting teammates and learning how the club works. The experience will vary according to age, playing pathway, availability and confidence.
Progress does not have to be measured only by goals or selection. Learning to control the ball, understand space, communicate with teammates and enjoy taking part are all meaningful signs of development.
Equipment can be simple at the beginning
New players should not feel pressured to buy every item before deciding whether hockey is right for them. Ask the club what equipment is available for beginners and start with the essential safety items recommended for participation.
