Injury Support and Reporting

If someone is injured during hockey, deal with their immediate safety first. This page helps players and families find the club contact, Hockey Australia's reporting route and current insurance information.

At the ground

Stop playing and tell your coach, team manager or the person supervising the activity. For an emergency, call 000. Seek appropriate medical care. If a concussion is suspected, stop participation and follow Hockey Australia's current concussion policy and advice from a qualified health professional before returning to hockey.

Tell the club and report the injury

Let your team manager or coach know that an injury occurred so they can coordinate the club's next steps. If you cannot reach them, email the GHC Secretary. Please keep an initial email brief; the club can arrange a suitable private way to discuss any details needed. Do not put a diagnosis or a child's medical history in a general website form.

Hockey Australia provides an injury and concussion reporting page. Use its current instructions to submit a report. This report is separate from telling your GHC team contact.

Insurance information

For eligibility, cover and claims, use Hockey Australia's registration and insurance information, which links to the national insurance program and its claims provider. Check the current policy and claim instructions there; the club cannot promise that a particular cost or incident is covered.

Returning to hockey

Follow your treating professional's advice and any applicable hockey concussion or competition requirements. Tell your team manager when your playing availability changes so the team can plan. You do not need to disclose a diagnosis through the website. If the matter is a child-safety or wellbeing concern rather than an injury-reporting question, contact the Secretary directly.
