Greensborough Hockey Club’s 2026 Schools Roadshow was completed in March as part of the club’s wider work to introduce more children to hockey. School outreach gives young people a chance to experience the game in a familiar environment, often before they or their families have considered joining a hockey club.
For GHC, the important part is not simply delivering a school session. It is creating a clear pathway from that first experience into a welcoming club environment where children can keep learning, make friends and decide whether hockey is for them.
Why take hockey into schools?
Many children discover a sport because somebody brings it to them first. A school visit reduces some of the barriers that can make joining a new sport feel difficult: families do not need to understand club structures, children can try basic skills with their classmates, and the first experience can focus on fun and confidence rather than competition.
That is particularly useful for hockey. A child can enjoy learning how to hold a stick, move with the ball, pass to a teammate and take part in simple games without needing to know the rules or own specialist equipment before they begin.
The 2026 Schools Roadshow
The club’s 2026 Schools Roadshow was completed in March 2026 and formed part of GHC’s junior recruitment and community-outreach activity. It was designed to help more local children encounter hockey and to strengthen the connection between school-based activity and opportunities to continue playing at Greensborough.
The Roadshow is one part of an ongoing effort rather than a one-off event. GHC intends to keep building school and community connections when suitable coaching capacity and opportunities are available.
From a school session to Burra
A positive school experience is most useful when families can easily see what comes next. GHC provides beginner-friendly entry points that allow children to continue at an appropriate pace rather than having to jump straight into a full competition commitment.
