How Can We Help?
Reverse Backfoot Shot
When executing a reverse shot off the back foot, it’s crucial to consider the presence of a defender behind you and your back facing the goal. Simply shooting the ball directly may result in the defender blocking your shot. However, there is a technique that can be effective in such situations.
First, it’s important to determine the ball placement to ensure proper contact with the stick and the ability to aim towards the goal. In this position, you’ll want to position the ball approximately 45 degrees away from your right foot. Placing it at this angle allows for better execution. With the defender in your back, you’ll lay the ball off in that direction. From here, you’ll need to take a significant step with your left foot and rotate your upper body to position yourself for the shot. This step and rotation allow you to create the necessary space and angle to execute the shot effectively. It’s crucial to ensure that your upper body is positioned around the ball before taking the shot.
A key aspect of this technique is getting the ball in the right position. Depending on where you want the ball to end up, you have two options. The first option involves simply laying the ball off with your forehand and executing the reverse shot. This is a straightforward approach. The second option incorporates a bit of deception. You’ll move the ball to the left before pushing it out and then executing the reverse shot. This slight movement can confuse the defender and create an advantageous shooting opportunity.
By focusing on ball placement, footwork, and upper body positioning, you can effectively execute the reverse shot off the back foot when faced with a defender in your back. These techniques provide you with the best chance to overcome the defensive pressure and find success in front of the goal.
