Reverse Back Foot Shoot

We’ve discussed the reverse shot before, but let’s focus on executing it off the back foot when you have a defender behind you and your back is facing the goal. In this situation, simply shooting the reverse might result in the defender blocking the shot. To overcome this, a technique that can work is laying the ball away from the goal, stepping around the defender, and then taking the shot.

Several key factors come into play when performing this technique. First, the placement of the ball is crucial for making good contact. You want to hit the reverse on the desired part of the stick to ensure accurate aim towards the goal. To achieve this, position the ball approximately 45 degrees away from your right foot. Placing it at this angle allows for a smooth execution of the shot.

Since the ball is set away from you, you need to make a large step with your left foot and turn your upper body around the ball to create the necessary angle for the shot. This step and turn enable you to bring your stick into position and strike the ball effectively. So, with the ball placed away from the goal, defender at your back, take a big step with your left foot, rotate your upper body around the ball, and then execute the reverse shot.

An essential aspect of this technique is ensuring the ball is properly positioned. Depending on your preference, you have two options. The first is to lay the ball off with your forehand and shoot the reverse directly. The second option involves a slight fake, where you move the ball to the left before pushing it out and then executing the reverse shot.

Remember to practice this technique to familiarize yourself with the ball placement, footwork, and upper body rotation required to execute the reverse shot off the back foot effectively. By mastering this skill, you can create scoring opportunities even when faced with a defender in your back. Keep practicing and refining your technique to improve your goal-scoring abilities.
