Preparing for the resumption of hockey

WE HOPE FOR HOCKEY TO BE BACK SOONER RATHER THAN LATER

Hockey Australia CEO Matt Favier reiterated the primary focus for HA and every MA continues to be on getting local competitions started up again, and he is buoyed by the recent commentary by government authorities.

“As we look to the months ahead with the hope that hockey will be back sooner rather than later, it remains critical that everyone continues their diligence in following the strict government and medical directives.”

Importantly, various restrictions remain in place until further notice, and HA will continue to monitor, and act accordingly, in response to statements and policies enacted by both Federal and State/Territory Health authorities. HA encourages all members of its community to download the Government’s COVIDSafe app as well as continue best hygiene practices and social distancing.

The National Cabinet will discuss relaxing Australia’s coronavirus restrictions on Friday (8 May). They will be reviewing and making decisions about which restrictions are the ones they can move on.

AIS FRAMEWORK FOR REBOOTING SPORT

The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and Sport Australia welcome the release by National Cabinet of the National Principles for the Resumption of Sport and Recreation Activities, which provides the pathway for a safe return to sport.

Principle 2: “Resumption of sport and recreation activities should not compromise the health of individuals or the community”.

THE TIMING OF THE RESUMPTION IS TO BE DETERMINED BY THE VICTORIAN GOVERNMENT

This could see hockey around Australia returning at different times. In the meantime Hockey Victoria will continue to communicate and inform clubs of updates and developments.

A return to hockey will require us all to be diligent. Pre-emptive interventions such as enhanced hygiene and social distancing measures will be essential. Education promoting required behavious will be crucial.
