Hip Shot

Today, we’re going to learn a special scoring technique called the hip shot. It’s not commonly seen, but it can be really effective in surprising goalkeepers. Let’s get started.

The hip shot is a quick explosive forehand shot used on the left side of the D. It allows you to create motion with your hips while taking a forehand shot and aiming for the long corner. It’s useful because when you’re on the left side, players tend to rely on their reverse shot, which can be predictable for goalkeepers. The hip shot offers a better angle and more control with the forehand, allowing you to surprise defenders and goalkeepers.

To execute the hip shot, remember these key steps. First, keep your shoulders open towards the D, giving you options to pass or shoot. Next, position your feet in front of the ball to bring your body into a good shooting position. Make a slightly shorter grip on your stick, and then use your hips to generate power and take the shot towards the long corner.

Here are a few things to watch out for when performing the hip shot. Avoid leaning back too much, as this can cause the ball to go too high. Keep your head above the ball to maintain control and accuracy. Additionally, pay attention to your footwork. Keep your feet about half a stick length away from the ball to ensure good contact and prevent a sloppy shot.

Remember, the hip shot can also be used outside the D for passing and disguising your intentions. It’s a versatile technique that can be applied in various situations.
