The Slap Shot

The snapshot technique in field hockey is a powerful scoring technique that can be used when you have limited time and want to surprise goalkeepers. Here are some key points to keep in mind:

1. Hand positioning: Hold your hands far apart, towards the bottom of the grip, to have a solid grip on the stick.

2. Backswing: Unlike a normal sweep or pass, the backswing for a slap shot is in the air. It should be shorter and higher, preparing for a powerful shot.

3. Contact with the ball: Aim to make short contact with the ball at the bottom of the neck to generate maximum power. Open the face of your stick slightly to get the desired contact and ensure the ball shoots off the stick.

4. Power generation: To generate power, push your right elbow out as you approach the ball. This helps engage your right arm for more force. The snap shot utilizes a hip movement while moving to enhance power, so focus on rotating your hips for added strength.

5. Practice: Practice the slap shot technique extensively to improve accuracy and power. Set up a line of balls and aim to execute the technique correctly with each attempt.

6. Game application: Once you have mastered the technique, consider incorporating it strategically in a game. Use it as a surprise shot when approaching the goal from different angles, catching the goalkeeper off guard.

Remember, repetition and practice are key to refining the slap shot technique and making it an effective scoring tool in your game.
