How To Receive An Aerial Pass

Welcome to our new video, where we’re going to dive into the exciting topic of receiving aerial balls or scoops. When it comes to receiving overhead passes, there are three different techniques we’re going to explore today. Each technique has its own benefits and challenges, so let’s jump right in!

The first method is the traditional shoulder-height reception. To execute this technique, position your hands on the stick with one hand near the bottom of the grip and the other hand near the top. As the ball approaches, track it with your eyes and time your reception. When the ball is near your head and right shoulder, aim to glide the stick and softly receive the ball, allowing it to drop down to the ground. The key is to avoid receiving the ball in a way that makes it bounce up. Instead, aim for a controlled touch that enables you to maintain possession and continue your play.

The second technique is useful when you’re running backward and can no longer receive the ball in the traditional manner. In this situation, you can reach above your head and attempt to trap the ball. However, it’s crucial to be cautious as the ball is near your head. Give it a gentle tap forward as you receive it to ensure it doesn’t drop toward your body or head. This forward tap allows you to maintain control and continue your run confidently.

Now, here comes the most challenging yet fascinating technique: trapping the ball as it’s about to hit the ground. This requires exceptional timing and coordination. As the ball descends, aim to control it directly into your stick and onto the ground. It’s a difficult move to execute, but when done successfully, it looks incredibly impressive and showcases your skill and control.

Remember, after receiving the overhead pass, the ball tends to bounce, taking some time to settle flat on the ground. To counter this, try using your stick to guide the ball toward the ground for better control. Squeezing the stick and the ball as you receive it can help you bring it down quickly, ensuring you have perfect control to continue your play.

Now, it’s your turn! Practice these three techniques for receiving overhead balls and let us know in the comments which one you prefer. Each method has its advantages, so explore them all and find what works best for you.
