Coaching from The Sidelines

Reasons why coaching from the sidelines is not a good idea:

  1. Confusing players with conflicting instructions. Before the game, the coach will talk to the team about strategy and they may give specific instructions to the players. If spectators from the sidelines start giving conflicting instructions, it can confuse the child.
  2. It can take away the opportunities for that child to make decisions. Learning to make decision while under pressure from opponents during the game is so important to a team sport like hockey.
  3. It takes the authority and respect away from the coach.
  4. It makes umpires job more difficult.
