Juniors

The Junior Section at Greensborough is administered by an Advisory Committee Chaired by the club President and supported by a Junior Secretary and Age Level Co-ordinators. The committee aims to provide all Under Age players at Greensborough with playing and development opportunities commensurate with their ability and capability. Development pathways from the Northern District Hockey League have been established. Access to club and Hockey Victoria Academy and Representative teams are available and at GHC we encourage participation in Senior Hockey when that is deemed appropriate. We have many players who have excellent track records at mentoring Juniors into Men’s and Women’s Premier League and beyond.

One of our latest full Australian Internationals, Tim Cross, is a great example of our program. Internationals Rachael Lynch and Glenn Simpson also started their careers in the Juniors at GHC.

The Junior section is also a pathway for Umpires, Technical Officials, Administrators and Coaches. Senior players are engaged to provide coaching and parents are encouraged to get involved in team management.

Hockey is an international Olympic sport essentially played by amateurs. Men and Women belong to the same club and play as one entity. This provides a great background for social development and a healthy environment for young people to develop. Greensborough takes great pride in its on field performance but equally as much pride in our participation and diversity ethic. The club welcomes people of different cultures and people with learning and physical disabilities. The club embraces the challenges that confront many people in the community and will always try to provide opportunities for all club members.

Greensborough through its history has developed Junior players who have gone on to represent their country at the Olympic and Commonwealth Games as well as World Cups. We have two members in recent Australian Squads who started as Juniors at Greensborough and both these players are mentors of the NDHL. While we like to win our ethic is on the long term and we will put learning how to play the game above winning at all costs.

The club is proud of its Premiership winning teams in the Premier League but even prouder of the large number of home grown talent in those teams. This means that at GHC our funds are spent on the club infrastructure and the hockey playing experience.

There is no better club to learn your hockey than at GHC.
