HV COVID-19 STATEMENT, Thursday 19 March 2020
The purpose of this communication is to provide an update from the position statement that we released on Tuesday. In the past 24 hours we have directly engaged with Sport & Recreation Victoria, Sport Australia and Hockey Australia to seek the latest information.
We have not taken this decision lightly given that the current advice from State and Federal Governments remains that community level sporting activities should continue. Working closely with Affiliates however, we recognise that some of them are losing access to their facilities and temporarily suspending their own hockey activities. Our decision today therefore reflects these developments, as well as the prevailing concern to ensure the health and safety of our players, officials and the wider community.
It is important to note that the season is not cancelled. Going forward we will continue to:
- Monitor the situation closely
- Keep you updated
- Work collaboratively with our Affiliates
- Develop a range of competition scenarios for the 2020 season. Our intent at this stage is to deliver all competitions in their entirety, while working with the affiliates to embed as much flexibility as possible.
On Friday 20 March, HV will provide further updates on the HV events (JCC, JSC and SCC).
We appreciate all the support received from so many members of our community over the past 24-48 hours and look forward to working with you and collectively providing hockey to the community after 1 May 2020.
We look forward to your ongoing support of Hockey Victoria, as without it we will not be able to effectively deliver hockey in 2020.
