Community sport

The coronavirus has had a crushing impact on community sport. During the winter months sport has a huge impact, it is more than the winning or losing. There is something really special about being involved with a sports club and it is knowing people will support you.

We are all wondering how it is going to impact us. Will the families come back, will the players come back and will the sponsors be there? It is a real time of uncertainty for community sport. After taking a year off there is a real danger that manner will question the need to be involved with a team sport.

At this time there is no indication from Government when they will allow team sport to resume.

The two major reasons why people become involved with sport are:

  1. To become connected
  2. Health and fitness
When we get the green light we need to be ready to go and not just sitting back waiting for the signal.

Resumption planning has to commence at the earliest possible time so that the club will be ready to ‘restart’  when the social restrictions are relaxed. It is not a question of ‘if’, but ‘when’ and the ‘new’ normal may look different from the ‘old’ normal.
