Congratulations to the Under 16 Pennant Team on their win in the Grand Final played on Friday night at Doncaster Hockey Club. The team won impressively 2-0 and it was great to see such a good crowd supporting our teams. Commiserations to our Under 16 Girls who lost their grand final in a shoot- out and to the Under 14 girls who drew their final, but were not awarded the flag as shoot outs are not conducted at that level. The flag goes to the higher team on the ladder.
Commiserations go to all of the teams that made the finals but did not get through to the Grand Final. We are equally proud of you and respect the effort to make the finals.
Speaking of shoot-outs I am still shaking from yesterday when our Women’s and Men’s teams both got through to the Grand Final by winning a shoot-out. Yes they are controversial. They can be cruel or exciting.
We are a very proud club who continue to participate in PL Grand Finals and are rewarded for our commitment to Junior Development and home grown talent.
We need every Greensborough person current and past, to rally to support our teams on Sunday at the SNHC. Proudly wear your Burra Green .
The day starts for us when our Under 10 girls play a demonstration game at 1.30 pm before the women’s final. These girls would really welcome your support as much as the Premier League squads. They are a team of stars and wonderful kids.
Tonight is the final night of the NDHL and all of the under 8 and under 10 kids will be playing their finals for the Glenn Simpson and Rachel Lynch Cups. The games run from 6-7pm and if you want to see the future, get down to the club. Bar b q to follow.
Friday night is the Junior Presentation Night and we expect a big night. Senior players are welcome to attend and show their support for the kids and give them a chance to mingle with their role models.
The senior Presentation Night is scheduled for Friday October 9 so please mark your calendar and support the club by attending.
Wednesday this week is the HV awards night and we have several players being recognized and our PL coaches and captains being interviewed.
And yes, we continue to work hard to improve the outcomes from HV. You can be assured that we address the issues with them but the results are occasionally not forthcoming. If I listed the apologies to members of the club for the raw deal they received it would be a long list. Most recently the scheduling of the Pennant A final at Monash. While we put forward the club’s concerns we also spend a lot of time constructively working to improve the game and we get some good results. Most significant is the NDHL. HV support has allowed us to now have 10 coaches able to go into the schools and support Ken Parkin. The NDHL this year had close to 130 kids on the books and we will grow that next year. The NDHL alone secures the future of the club.
And well done to the ball kidz. What a great job they do and thanks to Ken Parking and the parents that support this process.
See you all Sunday.
