Vale Gill Parmenter
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gill Parmenter on Wednesday 12 April 2017, following a long and courageous battle with Myeloma.
Gill Parmenter was a member of Greensborough Hockey Club starting her hockey career in 1978 with Eltham United Hockey Club. She played in the Women’s First team for many years, playing more than 350 games. Gill was incredibly athletic, casually completing marathons on the side of her distinguished hockey career. Whilst training for one of her marathons, she ran from her house in Research to LaTrobe University and completed a full training session with the team.
Gill played hockey up to the year 2000 when she moved with her husband, Brian, to Brisbane. Her athletic and sporting ability saw her take up rowing in Brisbane where she competed in the World Masters Games winning a gold medal in Rowing.
Gill was very well loved and respected by all her team members. Gill in her later years played a significant role in integrating junior players into senior women’s teams. Gill’s professionalism and competitive nature ensured she was a role model for all aspiring junior girls in the club at the time.
The thoughts of the Greensborough Hockey Club are with Brian, Justine, Anna and their families at this time.
A memorial will be held in Brisbane this Friday where some of Gill’s long standing team mates and lifelong friends will attend. The club will pay due respect to Gill this weekend.
